Lifeboat Day By S Thorn Photographer Bude

S Thorn Photography - Lifeboat Day By S Thorn Photographer Bude

This photograph shows Bude's Lifeboat, the Elizabeth Moore Garden 11, on Lifeboat day sometime between 1900 and 1910, being taken to sea across Summerleeaze beach (now a carpark), drawn by ateam of ten horses. A boy carries copies of a newspaper.

The building of the Grenville Hotel has not started. The dark shapes on the houses in Hartland Terrace are climbing plants or ivy. Possibly a vendor's stall and tent in the middle of the picture on the track up from Marine Terrace and Grenville Terrace.

This print was made using the original S Thorn glass negative.
