This photograph shows the Capricorno, an Austrian Barque on passage from Cardiff to San Paul De Loanda, West Africa, carrying 950 tons of coal. Of her crew of fourteen seven including her mate were lost soon after she went aground under Compass Point, Bude, on 28th December 1900. One man, Edwardo Francesoni, was rescued by rocket line from the shore. Five remained on board until she broke up on 29th and only one, Frontebella, A.B., managed to reach shore. This print was made using the original S Thorn glass negative.
