The Llandaff by S Thorn Photographer Bude

S Thorn Photography - The Llandaff by S Thorn Photographer Bude

This photograph shows the Llandaff, built in 1865, a Welsh steamer on the way from St Malo to Swansea. She ran aground on the Bude Breakwater near Sir Thomas' Pit in October 1899. The crew were rescued by rocket apparatus. She refloated herself a few days later but was too badly damaged. She was declared a total loss and taken to Cardiff to be broken up. She had previously run aground at Nanjizel Beach near Lands End in 1889 and refloated and taken to Penzance for repairs. This print was made using the original S Thorn glass negative.
